After a nice long week-end, I hope that students are regenerated and will be ready for a solid, rigorous week of learning.
The 6th grade class will definitely have a rigorous week of learning as they learn what the different types of essays are, the proper structure of a five paragraph essay, what is must contain using the Writing Process and the 6+1 Traits of Writing, etc.
and complete an essay. Also, students will learn how to effectively use a rubric in order to grade themselves by understanding what it must contain to achieve a superior grade.
The 7th grade class will begin reading the novel, The Pigman, by Paul Zindel. Student's will understand the author's purpose for writing, our purpose for reading by understanding the main themes of the novel, and developing their vocabulary skills.
The 8th grade class will complete the novel, Jacob Have I Loved, by Katherine Paterson by completing a test covering the last five chapters. Students will receive the results of those tests, thus completing the unit. Also, students will use the Writing Process to check their science research papers.
