REMINDER FOR PARENTS – Please take note that the passing grade according to the Ministry of Education is 70%. If your child scored less that 70% in the final grade for the second quarter, then he/she needs to take a recuperation exam scheduled for Saturday, January 25 at 8:00 a.m.
All classes had a nice week. We transitioned back into our school routines by writing about our holiday vacations. Most students were excited to write about them demonstrating their knowledge of the Writing Process and the 6+1 Traits and to recite them to the class.
This week, the 6th grade students will review the previous read chapters of their novel, Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls and later in the week, view the movie of the same name. Students should be able to compare/contrast the different genres and summarize the information in a short essay.
On Thursday of last week, the 7th grade students began reading their new novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry. Students will demonstrate knowledge of journal writing, vocabulary, comprehension in Literature circles, and the author's purpose through the discussion of the themes of the novel. Students will further show those abilities as they act out a chapter of the novel they will select. Good luck, students!!
The 8th grade class will focus on the learning of adverbs early in the week. Adverbs are usually difficult for some students, but the 8th grade has shown a good working knowledge of them. We will close the week learning about prepositions and prepositional phrases and if time permits, conjunctions. All of these parts of speech will be learned with the help of the textbook and the 8th Grade Grammar Workbook.
Let's have a great week!! Achieving is Believing!!
“Never be afraid to do what’s right. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
