Celebrate Black History Month by honoring the accomplishments of African- Americans and how those accomplishments help shape the Unites States and the world!! Parents and students, please stop by the bulletin board in the secondary and read about these proud moments of our lifetime and history.
In all grades, students will have a lively, informative, and fun discussion about the socio -economic impact the Super Bowl has on the world.
The 6th grade class will close the week by reviewing the parts of speech and learning the differences between the types of sentences in preparation to read their next novel, Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen.
The 7th grade will continue to read their novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry. While reading this novel, students have participated in literature circles to discuss the elements of comprehension and other HOTS, journal- ed using writing prompts, create non- linguistic representations of the chapters they have read, and study vocabulary with different partners. Students have had fun discussing this novel of a Utopian society and understanding the fundamental differences of it and their current realities. We will end the novel at the end of the week and test covering all the remaining chapters at the beginning of next week.
The 8th grade class will begin their new novel, Bad Boy: A Memoir, by Walter Dean Myers. The class will learn the overall themes of the novel, the author's purpose for writing, and the author's point of view. Also, while reading their novel, students will participate in literature circles to discuss the elements of comprehension and other HOTS, journal using writing prompts, create non- linguistic representations of the chapters they have read, and study vocabulary with different partners.
Let's have a great week of learning! Achieving is Believing!!
